New Zealand declares their first innings on fourth day of first Karachi test against Pakistan

Yesterday on the third day of New Zealand’s first test match against Pakistan in Karachi on 2022-23 Pakistan tour, New Zealand had leveled the score of Pakistan’s first innings, as they were playing at 440 runs with the loss of six wickets on end of day three.

Now as the game resumed for the fourth day of match, New Zealand was able to advance its score to 612 runs in total and when they had just 1 wicket in hand, they declared the innings and gave Pakistan a chance to Play the second innings. This was done in hope to take early wickets and try win the match from New Zealand. With 612 total runs, New Zealand had already secured the lead of 174 runs against Pakistan in their first innings.

If we talk of New Zealand’s batting, the batter Kane Williamson was the top scorer who scored 200 exact runs and remained not out. Tim Latham was on second place with his 113 runs. Davon Convey scored 92 and Ish Sodhi scored 65. Tom Blundell scored 47 and Daryl Mitchell scored 42 runs for New Zealand. Henry Nicholls scored 22 and no one else scored double figure score.

From Pakistani bowling side, this was again the game of spinners. Abrar Ahmed took 5 wickets, Nauman Ali took 3 and Muhammad Wasim took just one. Mir Hamza did not took any wicket. The Captain Babar Azam also bowled 4 overs and did not took any wickets.

Soon after New Zealand declared the first innings, team Pakistan was back in ground for batting. Until the end of day team Pakistan had scored 77 runs with the loss of 2 wickets. Abdullah Shafique got out after scoring 17 runs and Shan Masood gone after scoring just 10. As the play for the day four ended, Imam ul Haq was batting on 45 and Nauman Ali on 4 runs. Tomorrow is the last day of match and Pakistan still trails by 97 runs and have already lost two wickets.

Match Summary

Pakistan won the toss and elected to bat first. On first day of match Pakistan scored 317 runs for the loss of 5 wickets, these runs included the 161 runs of the captain Babar Azam. Next day however Babar Azam lost his wicket early without contributing any more runs. Later on, on same day Pakistan all team got out after scoring total 438 runs. This Pakistan’s first innings total of 438 runs included 103 runs from Agha Salman along with 161 runs scored by Babar Azam. Later, on same day New Zealand started their first innings and scored 165 runs until the end of second day without losing any wicket.

On third day of match New Zealand’s cricket team continued their innings and played for the whole day. On the end of day three, they had already leveled the scored with Pakistan by scoring total 440 runs in first innings. Today on the fourth day, New Zealand further advanced their first innings and declared it on 612 runs when they were in lead of 174 runs and their 9 wickets were lost. Later Pakistan started its second innings, until the day end they had scored 77 runs and lost 2 wickets. Pakistan still trails by 97 runs and they have 8 wickets in hand. New Zealand’s second innings remains.
