Multan Sultans chased biggest total of the T20 franchise cricket in world history

Soon the Pakistan Super League (PSL), Season 8, will enter the next stage of playoffs. Every team is now a days making an effort to do good. Either to qualify or to get into top two spots before playoffs, so they can use the extra advantage which top teams will have in playoffs of the tournament.

Recently, match 27 of PSL was played between Multan Sultans and Peshawar Zalmi, where Peshawar Zalmi had setup very high target of 243 runs but Multan Sultans ended up chasing it. That is the biggest chase of T20 franchise history, in absolutely no T20 franchise around the world, such total has been chased ever. In the match Peshawar Zalmi won the toss and elected to bat first.

Peshawar Zalmi Innings

From Peshawar Zalmi batting side, Babar Azam scored he most, 73 runs on just 39 balls with the help of 9 fours and 2 sixes. Saim Ayub supported well with his 58 runs on 33 balls with the help of 5 fours and 4 sixes. Tom Kohler-Cadmore contributed 38 while Muhammad Haris added 35 runs to the total. So, at the end of Peshawar Zalmi Innings they had collectively set the target of 243 runs for Multan Sultans to win the match, Peshawar Zalmi had lost 6 wickets by then.

While bowling from the Multan Sultans Abbas Afridi took 4 wickets while Anwar Ali and Usama Mir took one wicket each. In total seven bowlers tried their luck but no one other then the mentioned ones succeeded in taking wickets.

Multan Sultans’ Innings

From Multan Sultans batting side Rilee Rossouw was the top scorer. He scored 121 runs on just 51 balls, which included 20 boundaries, exactly 12 fours and 8 sixes. Rilee Rossouw was awarded the energetic batter of the match and player of the match awards for this performance.

After Rilee the second best score was from Kieron Pollard he scored 52 on 25 balls, which included 3 fours and 5 sixes. He was also was awarded with two titles and trophies for exception catching. One of them being ‘safe hands’ and other being ‘moment of the match’. Anwar Ali scored 24 and Khushdil Shah contributed 18 runs. Overall, Multan Sultans was able to chase target of 243 runs with 5 balls of innings still remaining. So they won the match by 4 wickets.

While bowling from the Peshawar Zalmi side, Azmatullah Omarzai took 2 wickets while Muneeb ur Rehman Arshad Iqbal, Wahab Riaz and Saim Ayub took one wicket each.

Match Summary

Peshawar Zalmi won the toss and elected to bat first. While batting first they scored 242 runs. Multan Sultans was able to chase the target of 243 runs with 5 balls remaining and won the match by 5 wickets. Rilee Rossouw was the Player of the Match as he scored 121 valuable runs.

After match 27 of PSL 8, Multan Sultans sit on third place while Peshawar Zalmi on fourth. Lahore Qalandars, Islamabad United and Multan Sultans have already qualified for the playoff while Peshawar Zalmi and Quetta Gladiators await the qualification. Quetta needs to win one more match, otherwise Zalmi will automatically be in playoffs but if Quetta wins their next match, then net run rate will decide who will be in playoffs. Karachi Kings are the first to disqualify in the tournament.
