Long hours of load shedding hits back Pakistan even in month of October

Published on

High Tension Power Polls in PakistanIt October 2014, temperatures are dropped very much as compared to months of June, July and August. The electricity demand have dropped too due to the lowered temperatures as compared to hot months of Pakistani summers. The Load Shedding had also gone very much down. But how can Pakistani corrupt governments be in peace if people start to live in that. In current case, from no where, Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) led government thought that its been more than a month, Pakistanis are living in peace with relatively low Load Shedding and here we go, Load Shedding is back. Demand have not gone up this time, nor did the temperatures, but again the Nawaz Regime is unable to deal with circular debt.

A month ago government looted people by over billing them for a month, later responsibility was put on one single individual after whole Pakistan was over billed. This over-billed amount was used to deal with circular debt temporarily. Now as again as govt gets out of money, they were real fast to bring back Load Shedding.

Whatever excuses government comes with over and over again, one thing is for sure, and that is, government have not been able to make enough recoveries, no serious actions are being taken against non-payers of electricity bills and the load is being put on those people who are paying the bills already.

Its out of inability or corruption of Nawaz League, the country is again facing 8 to 14 hours of daily load shedding in just urban areas. One can imagine what would be situation in rural areas. Locals know that Load Shedding in rural areas is mostly few hours more than urban areas.

While there is a group chanting the slogans of “Go Nawaz Go” or found as #GoNawazGo hash tag on social media, its evident now that Nawaz (Prime minister of Pakistan) is failing its people. One month they are being overcharged and next month government shuts down many power plants due to inability to recover the electricity bills.

CNG Load Shedding Continues and Vehicle Queues Get Longer Than Ever

Long queues at CNG filling stations

Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PMLN) had made many promises with people before coming into power. Main agenda was to make stuff affordable for people. But exactly like everything else the situation of CNG gone worse and year by year things going even worst. Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) is cheap fuel for vehicles in Pakistan and people prefer it over Gasoline or Petrol for reason it saves more than 60% money for same amount of travel on Petrol.

In era of previous two government CNG Load Management Plans (CNG Load Shedding) were introduced to deal with CNG shortages and meanwhile steps were being taken to import Natural Gas. One of such step was initiation of Pakistan Iran gas pipeline which was started in era of previous Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) in power. But now project faces a total halt.

In result of total halt of current Natural Gas import projects by current PMLN government country is once again facing real bad shortage of Natural Gas. In result now vehicle owners specially in Punjab get CNG only two days in a week and that is the situation of summer. In winter due to domestic water and room heating requirement gas shortages multiply exponentially and its closed for vehicle owners and only is given to house holds and that too can’t fulfill the requirement of house holds in those days.

Unlike era of couple of previous governments now people can only get CNG fuel two days, in result on those two days queues of vehicles at filling stations are too long. These queues range from 80 to many hundreds of vehicles waiting for their turn.

The CNG opening schedule for Potohar Region, which includes cities like Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Taxila, Wah, Chakwal, Jhelum attock and adjustment areas, is as follows.

Opens: Two non-consecutive days (Total 48 hours) in a week

Day 1: Monday 6 am to Tuesday 6 am (24 Hours)

Day 2: Thursday 6 am to Friday 6 am (24 Hours)

No CNG Load Shedding on Eid Days in Punjab

Published on

No CNG Load Shedding on Eid DaysPunjab govt have announced no CNG Load Shedding on days of Eid al-Fitr 2014. CNG will remain continuously open from 6 am Monday 28 july to 6 am Friday 2 July. According to Punjab government this special schedule for CNG load shedding on eid days is devised to facilitate people traveling to their hometowns inside Pakistan.

Let me remind you, in Ramadan CNG was only available for 18 hours in whole week, it was Monday and Thursday, from 6 am to 3 pm on both days. So due to this very short window of CNG opening for people of Punjab, majority of people didn’t even bothered getting the Gas during Ramadan.

It is also most likely that same 18 hours a week schedule will be back in action as soon as we get past days of Eid al-Fitr. Now the question which needs some attention to and which needs to be answered is, if Pakistan really have severe shortage of Natural Gas, how on earth govt will manage to give non-stop CNG on five days of eid? Also, keep in mind that these are days when traveling of people is peak and every available wheel is country is turning.

People hit roads after PML-N Led Govt fails to Control Electricity Load Shedding

People all over Punjab and Pakistan have started hitting the roads for protests against electricity load shedding. Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) is a ruling political party, which before 2013 general elections had claimed that they will resolve all the issues people of Pakistan are facing. Among them all they had specific claims about electricity, their leaders Nawaz and Specially Shehbaz Sharif had different claims of dealing with electricity problem once and for all within duration of 6 months to 2 years, as claimed in different speeches.

Now after more than one year passed with PML-N in power, electricity load shedding issue only gone worse. People in rural areas are facing load shedding of 18 to 22 hours daily and in urban areas people are facing load shedding on 14 to 18 hours. Even in Holy month of Ramadan, when people want peacefully worship Allah, absence of electricity in painstaking temperatures of 40 plus degree Celsius, only makes things bad.

People from Lahore and Punjab, from where people had given huge mandate to current PML-N led government in 2013 general elections, have now started protesting against worst load shedding of all times. People not only protested but they gone forward to attack Lahore Electric Supply Company’s (LECSO) office. Broken computers, furniture, interior and any thing which they have seen inside. The employees had to run to save their life.

Also in different areas of Punjab people hit road for violent protests against load shedding, they burned tires and destroyed public property. They destroyed cars whichever came under their sight. Now the current government is responsible for all this chaos, they are spending too much money on roads and transportation projects like Metro Bus Service, Metro Train Service but they are unable to provide people with electricity which is truly a basic in current era.

The government which can’t run fans of its people (let alone the ACs) must really step down immediately. Country definitely needs and deserve better transportation services but people deserve and need uninterrupted Power Supply much more than any transportation services. Its time that PML-N should reset or review its priorities otherwise the way things are going, people are going to vote them out in next elections.

If we see the matter of load shedding, Pakistan definitely have much more resources and existing power plants which can easily provide electricity more than current demand. More projects are definitely needed, as demand will grow with time. But at the moment govt need to manage ever increasing circular dept. This is circulating absence of enough money to purchase fuel for making electricity, caused by ineffective collection of pending dues. There are firms/individuals which have not payed bills from years, still govt does not collect bills, which results in vacuum, the absence of money for fuel, resulting in load shedding.

Here is Dunya News’ video about latest protests happening against electricity load shedding in Pakistan.

Electricity Load Shedding in Pakistan continues even in winter 2014 even with new PMLN led government

Published on

Sunset in background of electricity poles

Its winter 2o14, a new political party is in Power as result of elections held in early 2013. Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) which had done many promises with people of Pakistan including the resolving the power, gas and other kinds of energy crisis in Pakistan during their tenure.

Now its more than half a year but people have not got any relief yet. Pakistan is observing a load shedding which is even worse than last year. In urban areas this load shedding is 10 hours day and in rural areas it ranges from 12 to 18 hours a day. Government first claimed that all of this load shedding is due to annual canal closure but recently a news reported that Government have payed off held payments to some of power companies. So here definitely PML-N led government is hiding facts from people.

People are fed up with this load shedding in long hours even in winter when the country wide demand of Power is only 11000 Megawatts (MW), it is believed that things would be much worse in summer season when the overall countrywide demand of electricity is 16000 MW or above. Despite lots of big claims in election campaign by Sharif brothers, they have not been able to control the power crisis. Only thing they have done is increased the power tariffs drastically with most impact coming on segments which are using 100 to 300 units of electricity.

Lots of more power projects are being announced and its claimed that work is underway on lots, but the existing capacity is well above the required 11000 MW (Current Demand), but its somehow not being generated. Still the future promises and lollipops are being given to people.

According to a Wikipedia Article Pakistan have installed capacity of 21000 MW and Pakistan can generate electricity of minimum 14000 to 16000 megawatts easily. I have witnessed Pakistan generating 15500 or above MWs of electricity in last summer. So generating the 11000 MW in winter must be peace of cake. Just these politicians here don’t want public to come out of darkness otherwise this country is gifted with so much natural resources like coal, oil, gas and more by Allah. Only need is use them for betterment of nation. Same Wikipedia Article linked above states that Pakistan have capacity of generating 140,000 MW of electricity with just the winds blowing over its soil.

Hope these leaders get fair and provide people’s rights to them. People must also know how to demand what they deserve. This would be done by, first asking for the rights and asking questions from governing authorities, secondly by choosing the right people who can really change the fate of nation. Not choosing those who have already been tried and have not shown any good results in their tenure. On same time we hope that current government would realize soon that they would be voted again only if they solve the problems of people like Electricity Load Shedding, Gas Shortage, Law ‘n’ Order and much more.
