Water flow in rivers and water storage down to minimal, who is responsible
Posted by K. Shahzad in Agriculture, Basic Needs, Economy, National on January 25th, 2010
When compared to the last year the water flows in the rivers this year are very much about more than 34% less. Also storage overall is about from 32% to 40% of total capacity. Indus River System Authority (ISRA) is planning a meeting to revise the water management plan for this year and this meeting will held on 1st Feb, 10.
The water flows in four major rivers declined from 10,000 to 37,000 cusecs, which is huge decline. Also the decline in the Mangla and Terbela dams is 34% less than the next year.
Country is now facing huge water shortage, this shortage is now most likely to effect the agricultural activity around the country.
The thing here to think is untill when we will be depending on Mangla and Terbela dams. Have government thought something about starting the new water storage projects. Now its very much necessary because India is now in implementation phase of many dam on same rivers which take water to Pakistan. So naturally in future we will have to make sure that none of water which come in go to the sea but its stored in many water reserves.
If situation stays the way it is and more water management projects are not thought of, it would definitely be more hostile food commodities and power shortage in the country.
There are lots of things which need to be planned from now to survive after 10 years of time, nearly no planning for water, gas or power is going on. Looking at the on going increase and expected increase in demand of these all, the revolutionary development project are now due. God bless this country with a capable leadership which manages every thing as required.

Promises just remain promises, electricity shortage hits four thousand megawatts in Pakistan
Posted by K. Shahzad in Basic Needs, National on January 11th, 2010
Its January 10th 2010 and we are living into the age when government had promised many times that we will have all our electricity shortages met. Many times in past being not able to fulfill their promises of meting electricity needs in Dec 2008 and according to next promise June 2009, no w finally once again ruling party unable to met the third one which stated the discontinuation of load-shedding from Dec 2009 for forever.
Not only this but just after Government’s dead line for itself to meat all energy challenges country is again pushed into the severe crises of its time. We are now again face the short fall of more than 4000 megawatts. This shortfall causing the load shedding of nine to seventeen hours in different areas of the country.
Not to forget that the on going season is low power consumption season, power consumption even goes too much high in summer as compared to this season. When they are not able to fulfill the energy needs of nation in this season what will they do in summer. The circumstances just show that things not working out here, ruling party just seem making and broking their own promises on the issues and was not able to address issues on ground.
According to analysts energy projects being worked on will not able to fulfill the nation’s energy needs even in 2011 – 2012. Hope administration goes with a fresh emergency planning on the issue and tries to fulfill the energy needs of nation.

Country wide CNG Association Strike ends, Gas load management to be discontinued soon
Posted by K. Shahzad in Basic Needs, National on January 2nd, 2010
As all Pakistan CNG Association had announced a country wide strike and they were on strike for quite a few days now, finally they got the chance to settle the issues with the officials. A delegation from All Pakistan CNG Association met Federal Minister for Petroleum Syed Naveed Qamar to talk on the issue.
Naveed Qamar assured them that the Gas load management plan will be discontinued by the February. Responding to this assurance from Qamar CNG Association announced the discontinuity of their strike against the government and for now CNG stations will only be closed on normal schedule provided by government.
Hope the official stands by his assurance and its not another unfulfilled promise by the country’s administration.
Darkness follows the nation, administration unable to fulfill promises

31st Dec 2009 was the third deadline given by ruling party in order to finish off the electricity load shedding from the nation once and for all. But few statements from the officials and on going load shedding in winter seasons when the electricity usage is very less in compared to the summer made it clear that current ruling party would unfortunately will not be able to do it.
One thing this country kept seeing right from beginning to date is unfulfilled promises. Current ruling party who claim to have vision to change things and put the country on the way of economic growth have been in government many times but unfortunately they have not been able to tackle with small internal issues.
Its just three days to their deadline and the low electricity usage season, but they have not been able to do it this time as well. I hope they will not embarrass themselves once again by giving another deadline for this. Up till when people of Pakistan will be becoming the fools by the hand of wrong people in power. When do we will realize who is right and who is wrong, when will we choose the right people to be in power.
We do not have the need to go for any specific political party but have to realize who have done what for country when they were in power last time while we vote next time. God Bless Pakistan!
No CNG for two days each week for Punjab and NWFP
Posted by K. Shahzad in Basic Needs, Inside Story, National on November 5th, 2009

A CNG Station From Pakistan
What else can you expect from a Government which is highly not capable of managing things. Now after having all sufferings from the electricity load shedding Pakistanis had finally to see this day when they will be facing so called “Gas Load Management Plan”. According to this plan initially the people of Punjab and NWFP will remain without CNG for two days each week. This will not happen for days or week or a month, the plan is to repeat it the whole winter, initially it would be from 15th Nov, 2009 to 15th Mar, 2010.
This is the time when the people of Pakistan were expecting that government will fulfill its promise of ending the electricity load shedding they have now to bare the other kind of load-shedding which is being called the “Gas Load Management Plan (GLMP)”.
The disadvantages of this decision will be severe this will immediately effect the economy and cause the inflation. As the cost of using petrol instead CNG for travel is 5 to 10 times more than the CNG. Now Imagine when people will have to use the Petrol to transport the daily used items and food they have to pay much higher for this and on same time they will charge consumer much more.
This is like throwing the nation back into the dark age. If there is really shortage of Gas in the country there are many ways to deal with this, one of them may be to import gas, such a project was on its way, which is called Pakistan Iran Pipeline but don’t know how and when would our government will be able to complete this.
As most of previous governments, another disability of this government is the vision of future. They are highly unable to figure things out that what is going to be happen in near future and act accordingly. They would have idea very much before by looking into the increasing demand, that they are gonna face the gas shortage in the future.
Past shows once a thing is gone wrong you should not expect any thing better for years, as this government have introduced a new kind of load shedding for people of Pakistan, now I can see it prevailing it for many years, at least till the current ruling is in charge.
I hope that the leaders would now be understanding the gravity of situation and would deal with all the things wisely. And I hope that we Pakistanis would not have to listen about anything like “Food Load Management Plan” or “Water Load Management Plan” in the future.
The dark age continues, Govt still says, lights ahead

In 2008 first time the ruling party had claimed that the load shedding will be taken away from the people of Pakistan once and for all on 31st Dec, 2008. But they didn’t make it, in fact they were not able to bring any improvement. The things were better before, as compared to their rule.

Soon after the ruling party changed their statements, probably they would have checked and planned on back-end, they came up saying the issue of power shortage will be resolved till the June 2009 and the people would have to bare with them. This time this seem to bit realistic and people thought, ok believe them.
But again, as history repeats itself, ruling party was unable to fulfill the promise this time again. But you know what, after letting them down about two times only on this issue our brave leaders came up again with a third promise to cope with power shortage till end of 2009. Actually, according to them it was 31st Dec, 09.
Now its already mid October and ruling party is left with just 2 and half months to fulfill their promise but people of this country observing the load shedding of 6-8 hours in all major cities and even more in the rural areas. Now this thing requires a bigger imagination about how government is going to fulfill their promise in just two and half months.
Other nations have built the space stations and we are not getting able to cope with the basic problems like electricity shortage on national level.
The question is, will the leading party be able to fulfill their promise this time or will always keep telling us to bare with them, showing the public the imaginary lights coming up in their way. Special thing about these special lights is that they move further away from you as soon as you move towards them.
Closing CNG for three months, are you kidding
Posted by K. Shahzad in Basic Needs, National on September 22nd, 2009
Earlier, this has been proposed by the Federal Government of Pakistan to close the CNG stations for three months. A final decision on this is yet to come but the proposed period starts from 1st Nov, 2009.
What ever happens in this regard but I am sorry to say that Federal Government will have to rethink on their strategies. As we all know that closing down CNG will increase the goods transportation costs to at least five times of what they are currently. So this will definitely speed up the inflation. Currently as government must think of slowing down the on going inflation, they are busy in ideas which will definitely increase it.
Moreover we were hearing the news of shortage of petrol in Peshawar and other areas of country a month ago and also petroleum companies were out of stock in such conditions how could you think of closing down the CNG stations for three months. If decision like this comes from the government, it would be silliest thing ever, that is what we think.
Despite court orders Millers Refuse to Sell Sugar at price fixed
Posted by K. Shahzad in Basic Needs, Happenings, National on September 5th, 2009
Taking an action on self made sugar shortage and high price of sugar Lahore High Court (LHC) had set the selling price of sugar for millers at Rs. 40 but no one of mills had actually acted up. Reacting the LHC set the price even less at Rs. 36 for millers and Rs. 40 retail price. All of the sugar millers have declined sell sell sugar on rates set by High Court.
Afterwords, court had asked the province officials to make the millers act upon the decision, province officials called a meeting of millers to sit together and decide the convenient prices and a strategy to act upon them, but most of the sugar millers had also denied the attend the meeting.
Now on Friday the sugar stock at all sugar mills have been seized at mills to make them comply with the High Courts decision. Millers still denied to sell the sugar at the price fixed by Lahore High Court, saying that they can even not recover the price of raw material if they sell the sugar at the price fixed.
Pakistan energy crisis, the dark age
Posted by K. Shahzad in Basic Needs, National on August 17th, 2009
It is really unfortunate that in age when other nations are done with all their basic needs and busy in advance researches and exploring space, Pakistan have been unsuccessful in coping with the people’s basic needs. This is not because this good country does not have any natural resources or does not capable of do the required stuff but the only reason for downfall is lack of planning by the governments of all times. Now one till date have taken things seriously.
If we talk of energy crisis, why is Pakistan in trouble in terms of energy, no past government have seriously planned about power provision according to the needs in future. Once there was a time when Pakistan had extra power, and they were selling it, but had a small distribution network limited to some areas. The proper research at that time must have done to look at future energy needs and measures to fulfil them. Our leaders kept sleeping then.
Now when our country is 4000 MW short of required energy, the measures are not being taken up to the required extent. Just a day back US offered to help Pakistan overcome the power crisis. Until when we would keep looking on others to come along and fulfil our needs of all kinds, why can’t we start doing things ourselves. Having contracts and collaborations with other countries is good thing but relying on them is worse.
Pakistan have lots of natural resources, why can’t Pakistan govt seriously plan to use them. In recent past a wind led power house was brought into operation but having few projects does not make sense when we have to cope with our current and upcoming energy requirement.
Feasibility must be called on by govt for all kind of energy generation possibilites. Which also include alternate sources like wind, solar energy and more. Pakistan have lots open lands where wind blows fast enough to produce energy via wind turbines, also have trumendiously hot areas fully exposed to sun and can be used to build a number of solar led power houses. Lots of other alternate energy proposal came and denied in past.
Its time to think, if we have get out of this dark age and bulid a senerio where we are independent interms of energy, the planning then have to be for future 50 or 100 years not for just hardly fulfilling the current needs. This country is equipped with countless natural resource only its required that some one now take the responsibilty and utilize them to produce power up to the requried level as overall country’s economic progress heavily depends on non-stop provision of power. God Bless you Pakistan!
