New Pakistan wheat policy 2025-26 sets a wheat price and commits to no movement restrictions

A statement issued from the Prime Minister Office (PMO) revealed that the Govt of Pakistan have come up with wheat policy 2025-26. According the new policy it has been agreed that there will be no restrictions of movement of wheat between provinces. According to the statement the representative of KPK province was present at the time policy was finalized.

It is important to notice that previous some reports had surfaced where Govt of Punjab had imposed some restrictions on wheat, so it was not allowed to be moved to KPK. Though the Govt had denied any such act on top level but on administrative level, it had happened and people we stopped to move the Wheat. Anyways, its good that it have been resolved between the govts of both provinces and the intention is to allow the free movement of wheat this year.

Also the provinces will acquire the strategic reserves of overall 6.2 million to fulfil their needs. They will procure the wheat from the farmers at Rs. 3500 PKR per maund (40 KG).

Wheat policy was discussed and finalized in meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Meeting was held on Saturday, Sep 18, 2025. It was attended by chief ministers of Punjab, Sindh, Baluchistan and Gilgit Baltistan. A representative of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) province was also present in the meeting.

Meeting observed that the farmers are backbone of Pakistani economy, so special efforts are being made and to be continued for their wellbeing.

In previous year the support price for wheat was dropped by govt, farmers were forced to sell the crop on market price and due to, too much supply available for multiple reasons, farmers were forced to sell on a very low prices. However, this year to ensure the steady stable reserves and to provide the farmers with a good support price, measures are being taken, which include the decided price of Rs. 3500 Per maund.
