Worst ever winter Power Load shedding in Pakistan
Posted by K. Shahzad in Basic Needs on December 29, 2010
Winter is on its peak with good quantity of waters in our rivers and these are the months when the power consumption is minimum of whole year but still we are witnessing the load-shedding which is announced as 3 to 5 hours per day and on some random days this even goes beyond that.
There are part of world where the uninterrupted power supply is assured for the whole year no matter what happens, i.e. no matter the weather conditions are good or bad, power will just be available. We here in Pakistan even if can’t match that kind of supply but should have tried to improve the things but seems like in this matter things are getting worse. I remember at least in winters we had uninterrupted supply of power over the past but since when Pakistan Peoples Party have took charge things have just worsened.
The power consumption of country in the winter season is around 10 thousand megawatts and this country in the past kept producing something about 16 to 17 thousand megawatts but seems like now since current administration took charge we have only lost our capabilities instead of improving on things. Having said that the power load shedding we are facing currently in Pakistan is indeed worst winter load shedding of history of any power load shedding in Pakistan.
If current administration is not being able to fulfill the power consumers’ needs in the winter season how on earth they are going to make thing happen in the summer season when the power consumption is almost double than those in these cold weathered months. This is same country administration which have three times in past promised people of Pakistan to put an end to electric shortage and load shedding in Pakistan and all three times they have disappointed us by not fulfilling promises, further disappointed by not being able to show results even after those deadlines.
When they promised to end the power shortage, it is understandable that they would not have been able to pull this off due to some reasons but they should have improved on things, this loss on previous capability clearly tells that those were not promises to improve things but few lame attempts by government or Pakistan Peoples Party for that matter to fool the people of the country.
I pray for the day when only those who are loyal to Pakistan and people of Pakistan come into the leadership of country and do something to put an end to irony and hopelessness once and for all.
Electricity shortfall continues, PPP’s Policy making skills byte the dust
Posted by K. Shahzad in Basic Needs on October 3, 2010
Its well over the 2 years since the so called Pakistan Peoples Party is power but they came up with lack of policy making skills in every aspect. Same is the condition of electricity. I am safe to say that the power production capabilities of country decreased over the last years instead of increasing. As dawn reports current capability of country’s power production just hangs on 11,725 megawatts which seems less then the capability we had earlier, clearly more than 12000 megawatts for sure. The current requirement varies around the 16,662 megawatts. Which means that the demand and supply gap is still 5000 megawatts.
Either its non functional power plants or reasons are no matter what, the thing is that current administration have failed to power the country. That is not all, the real insult to injury comes in when we recall their promises of ending the load shedding on first Dec 2008 then June 2009 and then the last unfulfilled promise of making this happen on end of Dec 2009.
Their claims were clear lies and that is testified by the current figures. Put the issue of ending load-shedding on side, figures tell us that government didn’t got able even narrow the demand supply and reversely we are facing load-shedding much much more than what we witnessed in Musharraf’s era before the PPP came in power. It used to be few half hour intervals of load shedding in peak hot months but now its like 8 to 10 hours daily in a weather which is moderate, not so cold nor hot.
This is even much more serious than being unable to provide the basic needs, it is open insult of democracy that they are currently doing by making the promises and then not doing any thing to fulfill them. It is like making a promise to silent the masses for the moment and then not caring at all.
We as a country shall rise, but only in case when we learn from the previous experiences, vote in true and honest people to lead us by slapping a NO into the face of lairs and cheaters. And this rule must not apply to a certain group or party but the individuals who have not been able to perform no matter where they belong.
Shortage of more than 4000 megawatts in Pakistan, Electricity loadshedding hits hard this time
Posted by K. Shahzad in Basic Needs on March 21, 2010
It is just start of spring season and we are already short of electricity in big way, already we are lacking 4o0o plus magewatts of power in Pakistan. What is going to happen in summer season, it will of course be the worst load shedding of all times in Pakistan. One would be optimistic while thinking of what is going to happen in near future but in this case the last two years proved this that things are getting worse and worse day by day.
This is definitely the worst failure of all the policies of current government, despite many promises in recent past about electricity they have not been able to cope with this issue and last promise was to remove the electricity load shedding from country for ever but just after three months of deadline we are seeing the 12 to 15 hours load-shedding in cities and load shedding of up to 18 hours or more in rural areas.
This all proves that the government have done nothing on earth to back the promises but just the promises which were never fulfilled. Not having electricity at homes will be least of our worries because there are alternatives available to cope with this but what about the falling economy which didn’t saw a hike mainly from last two years.
It is not electricity, it is a total policy failure which led the country towards the worst which can happen, if things are not improved soon we will be great trouble.
Specially in power sector there is lots which needs to be done, including building new dams to store the lots of water which we dump every year into the open sea despite the water shortage. There is lots which can be done in power sector including getting power from alternative sources but if it is not done on urgent bases in few years we will be pushed towards the total darkness in few coming years.
If we really want to progress, the energy from alternate sources like wind tribunes, solar energy plants is must, also the reserves of coal can be utilized to generate lots of power. But for all of that the real capable leadership is must. Lets see how current government deals with current energy and water crisis, but a question remains, are the really capable to deal with such situations? – We will get the answer to this question soon as time passes.

Water flow in rivers and water storage down to minimal, who is responsible
Posted by K. Shahzad in Agriculture, Basic Needs, Economy, National on January 25, 2010
When compared to the last year the water flows in the rivers this year are very much about more than 34% less. Also storage overall is about from 32% to 40% of total capacity. Indus River System Authority (ISRA) is planning a meeting to revise the water management plan for this year and this meeting will held on 1st Feb, 10.
The water flows in four major rivers declined from 10,000 to 37,000 cusecs, which is huge decline. Also the decline in the Mangla and Terbela dams is 34% less than the next year.
Country is now facing huge water shortage, this shortage is now most likely to effect the agricultural activity around the country.
The thing here to think is untill when we will be depending on Mangla and Terbela dams. Have government thought something about starting the new water storage projects. Now its very much necessary because India is now in implementation phase of many dam on same rivers which take water to Pakistan. So naturally in future we will have to make sure that none of water which come in go to the sea but its stored in many water reserves.
If situation stays the way it is and more water management projects are not thought of, it would definitely be more hostile food commodities and power shortage in the country.
There are lots of things which need to be planned from now to survive after 10 years of time, nearly no planning for water, gas or power is going on. Looking at the on going increase and expected increase in demand of these all, the revolutionary development project are now due. God bless this country with a capable leadership which manages every thing as required.

Promises just remain promises, electricity shortage hits four thousand megawatts in Pakistan
Posted by K. Shahzad in Basic Needs, National on January 11, 2010
Its January 10th 2010 and we are living into the age when government had promised many times that we will have all our electricity shortages met. Many times in past being not able to fulfill their promises of meting electricity needs in Dec 2008 and according to next promise June 2009, no w finally once again ruling party unable to met the third one which stated the discontinuation of load-shedding from Dec 2009 for forever.
Not only this but just after Government’s dead line for itself to meat all energy challenges country is again pushed into the severe crises of its time. We are now again face the short fall of more than 4000 megawatts. This shortfall causing the load shedding of nine to seventeen hours in different areas of the country.
Not to forget that the on going season is low power consumption season, power consumption even goes too much high in summer as compared to this season. When they are not able to fulfill the energy needs of nation in this season what will they do in summer. The circumstances just show that things not working out here, ruling party just seem making and broking their own promises on the issues and was not able to address issues on ground.
According to analysts energy projects being worked on will not able to fulfill the nation’s energy needs even in 2011 – 2012. Hope administration goes with a fresh emergency planning on the issue and tries to fulfill the energy needs of nation.
